High Tech that guarantees the quality of our roses

In Ecoroses, we are characterized by our constant innovation; passion for quality is one of our implicit values. We make significant investments in technology in order to guarantee our processes, to maintain our standards and to grow roses that have a longer vase life.

Business Intelligence

Data Collection and analysis of information is a strategic factor to maintain our processes on constant upgrading.

In Ecoroses, we have implemented “Business Intelligence” and “Data Analytics” methodologies with the purpose of collecting and analyzing data for better decision making.

All our processes are computed, and thanks to the implemented software, we have immediate online data about all areas of the company.

We use a management software  specialized in flower production, that provides key indicators of our production chain, through different dashboards, as explained below:

  • Once the flower comes to the post-harvest, we can identify aspects of great importance, like who was the employee that harvested the flower, the greenhouse from which it comes from, variety name, quantity, among other information.
  • After this, a unique bar code is generated for each bunch of flowers. Its length, variety, and date of packaging are detailed on the code.
  • Once the bunches are in the cooling room, dispatchers can identify which is the newest and oldest bunch, with the purpose of correctly rotating our inventory to guarantee freshness. The bar code is scanned read before packing the bunches in the box. The boxes are weighed and the system compares the real weight of the box with the volumetric weight to guarantee efficiency on the freight costs paid by our customers.

The process in the post-harvest area is registered completely; this allows us to obtain indicators that are fundamental for decision taking on any element of the production chain.

By using these systems, we can obtain data like the average size length of the stems, the number of stems harvested per variety, process programming, production projections, harvest date of the bunch, among other information. Likewise, we can identify and classify which phytosanitary problems have been generated the most, such as the presence of dust mites or fungi, how many flowers have been rejected, etc. This information has great importance when feedbacking the irrigation and fertilization systems. For example, if a phytosanitary problem is determined, engineers, who, through the irrigation system, can design adequate fertilization to solve this problem, use this information.

Therefore, these data system analyses help us to upgrade our processes, maintain our quality, and satisfy our clients’ needs.

These data collection systems facilitate decision making along with our production and commercialization processes.

High-Tech Irrigation System

Exact and nutritious formulations to guarantee our flower quality

In the production department, we design the ideal nutritious mix for cultivation. The process starts with the formula preparation in our pre-mix tanks; this system guarantees a perfect combination as the formula is continuously shaken avoiding precipitation or sedimentation. This nutritious mix gets to the crops at the greenhouses through pumps, tubes, and dripping lines, at the exact time. When the accumulation of energy reaches 300 Jules (Energy measurement unit), the plant transpires more and the equipment automatically sends an irrigation order for the plant to get the fertilizer.

This equipment, with European technology, has a venturi system that sucks permanently the nutritious mix to irrigate the cultivation. This mechanism guarantees the quality of the mixture, the nutrients that go to the field and crops; in this way, we assure irrigation at the exact hour, guaranteeing that the entire farm is irrigated in no more than an hour and a half.

Advanced technology allows us to make a nutritious mix that’s ideal for our crops.

When a rose is harvested, its maturing process starts immediately, which is the reason why we must implement different possible mechanisms to slow this process, assuring the flower lasts longer.

How do we do that?

The flower is harvested at temperatures ranging from 64°F to 69°F, so when it arrives at the post-harvest, we must lower the temperature immediately and place it on a hydration mix. This mixture is made with filtered and treated water, which has gone through an ultrafiltration process, and through a system, that dozes the exact amount of preservatives, moisturizers, and bactericides for the water. This guarantees that the flower will absorb the necessary quantity of the mix to increase its vase life.

Some flowers that get into the post-harvest can develop a fungus called botrytis; we can also find certain microscopic insects, called trips, which feed on rose petals. To eliminate any kind of plague, a system of electrostatic aspersion fumigates the flowers minimizing the consumption of chemicals. Once this process has concluded, roses go through ultraviolet lamps that have a fungicide effect killing any fungi.

Cold Chain

Keeping our flowers at low temperatures is necessary to guarantee their quality and life in the vase.

In Ecoroses, we guarantee our cold chain, maintaining roses at a temperature of 35°F. We have high-tech equipment, like Aerocide devices, that cleans continuously the air, inhibiting microorganisms’ reproduction.

Additionally, we treat the cold room’s air with ethylene removal equipment because, when the flower is cut, it produces an organic chemical component that, when not removed, affects the flower negatively because it is a petal falling inducer.

In Ecoroses, we control the cold chain directly; we use our fleet of refrigerated trucks to guarantee that our product is at an adequate temperature until it is delivered to the cargo agencies.

To maintain our quality standards, we place temperature indicators that measure the temperature fluctuation along the trip until they get to their destination.

When we have to pack flowers that have not been inside the cold room long enough, due to different circumstances, forced cold equipment is used to reduce the temperature of the bunches, assuring they are packed in good conditions, in order to guarantee a longer vase life of our roses.

The cold chain is critical to guarantee the durability of our roses

Thanks to the combination between the state of the art technology and the geographical conditions of our region, we guarantee high-quality flowers.

We are constantly improving our processes thinking always in adding more value to the product our customers receive; delivering high quality, long-lasting, and colorful roses to the world.
